Dr. Lisa Burback is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in Edmonton, Alberta. Her clinical, teaching and research activities focus on PTSD, complex trauma, interventional psychiatry, and psychotherapy innovations. After psychiatric residency, she practiced general inpatient and outpatient psychiatry at Alberta Hospital Edmonton (AHE), serving those with severe and complex psychiatric illnesses. Thereafter, she became interested in trauma, psychotherapy and adapting methods for complex populations. From 2020 to 2023, she led a study of adapted EMDR for those with suicidal ideation. She is currently a co-investigator with HIMARC (Heroes in Mind Advocacy and Research Consortium) and AHE Site Lead for the Alberta 3MDR (Multi-modal, Motion-assisted, Memory Desensitization and Reconsolidation) clinical trial.
