The Alberta Psychiatric Association (APA) is linked to the Alberta Medical Association (AMA) through the Section of General Psychiatry and the Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
An important section function is to represent psychiatrists during fees and benefits negotiations that establish the Alberta Health Care Schedule of Medical Benefits.
This section elects two psychiatrists to the AMA Representative Forum (RF). From the RF, they become delegates to the AMA governing body by election to the AMA Board of Directors.
The SGP holds its Executive and Annual General Meetings in conjunction with, but separate from the Alberta Psychiatric Association. It operates under separate bylaws which it shares with other AMA Sections.
