Dr. Jan Banasch is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Grey Nuns Community Hospital (Covenant Health), and Addictions and Mental Health 108 st Clinic (Recovery Alberta) and a Clinical Professor , University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine/Dentistry. She trained at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham England before immigrating to Alberta in 1984. She attended the Calgary and Edmonton Residency Programs and worked for 19 years at AHE before transferring to the GNCH in 2009. She had been site chief for 3 years at GNCH during which time she implemented the Psychiatry CL and ER Team, started the first IV Ketamine Program in the province. She organizes the GNCH Psychiatry Grand Rounds Series and chairs the Feldman Lecture Day having previously been on The Flor-Henry Conference Committee and the Edmonton Schizophrenia Conference Chair. She taught at the Medical school for many years and was awarded teacher of the Year award in 2005.
