Dr. Anees Bahji

Dr. Anees Bahji is a psychiatrist, addiction specialist, and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary. He serves as an Addiction Psychiatrist with the Canadian Centre of Recovery Excellence (CORE), where he leads research and evaluation initiatives on system-level responses to substance use in Alberta. His work focuses on integrating clinical care, epidemiologic research, and implementation science to improve access, outcomes, and accountability across addiction services. Dr. Bahji's research spans supervised consumption site evaluation, opioid agonist therapy optimization, compassionate intervention frameworks, and innovations in data-driven system design. Nationally, he serves as Deputy Editor of the Canadian Journal of Addiction and contributes to several Canadian Psychiatric Association and CANMAT working groups on concurrent disorders and addiction psychiatry education.
