Dr. Carmen Logie

Dr. Carmen Logie is the Canada Research Chair in Global Health Equity and Social Justice with Marginalized Populations, Professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, Adjunct Professor at the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment, & Health, and Adjunct Scientist at Women’s College Hospital. She was elected a Member of the College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists with the Royal Society of Canada in 2025. Her research program advances understanding of, and develops interventions to address, hazardous social and physical environments associated with health disparities, including intersecting stigma, extreme weather events, and resource insecurities. Her current research focuses on HIV prevention, testing and care in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Canada with people living with HIV, refugee and displaced youth, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) communities, sex workers, and Northern and Indigenous youth. She is a CIHR Institute of Gender & Health Advisory Board Member, member of the WHO Sexual Health and Wellbeing Advisory Group (SWAG), and a WHO Self-care for Sexual and Reproductive Health Guideline Development Group Member. She is Deputy Editor at the Journal of the International AIDS Society and Associate Editor at Stigma and Health, and an Editorial Board Member for Social Science and Medicine Mental Health and Cambridge Prisms Global Mental Health. Her >345 peer-reviewed publications, cited >18,500 times, advance knowledge of mechanisms through which environmental and social hazards harm health.
