My name is Emma Hamid, and I am a PGY5 Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellow at the University of Saskatchewan. I grew up in Calgary and completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Calgary before attending medical school at University College Cork in Ireland, graduating in 2020. Living and training in Ireland was one of the most exciting and formative times of my life and played a big role in shaping both who I am and how I practice medicine.
I am now back home in Saskatchewan and really enjoying my training in Saskatoon. I was drawn to psychiatry because of the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in patients’ lives, as mental health touches every part of a person’s experience. The work can be challenging, but it is incredibly rewarding, and I value how much I continue to grow as a physician.
Becoming a mother in 2023 had a profound influence on my career path and inspired me to pursue child and adolescent psychiatry, with a strong focus on advocacy and giving children a voice. Outside of medicine, I love staying active—my main hobby is weightlifting, and I spend a lot of time training at the gym, along with yoga, running, and skiing.
