Dr. Catherine Phillips

Catherine L. Phillips is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta, where she has been a psychotherapy supervisor, teacher and mentor.

She founded the Mindfulness Institute.ca in 2009, and has been a recognized pioneer, teacher and mentor of Mindfulness in Medicine in Western Canada, providing CME accredited workshops and programs since that time.

For almost 17 years Catherine worked as Consultant Psychiatrist at Edmonton Health Services Clinic (EHSC), Edmonton Garrison, Department of National Defense, where she witnessed and directly experienced Canadian military culture. This experience, combined with her backgrounds in psycho-analytic psychotherapy, and interest in ethics, lead to her co-founding and co-chairing the inaugural Edmonton Garrison Health Services Clinic Ethics Committee, in 2017.

Catherine’s unique combination of backgrounds in Psychiatry, Trauma, Psychotherapies, Mindful Meditation/Programs, Interpersonal and Systems Dynamics, combined with her observations and experience with workplace bullying, harassment, and mobbing within one of the most highly publicized cultures in Canada– the Department of National Defense - offer a highly specialized, unique and in-depth perspective to health care professionals, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists.
