Dr. Oyedeji Ayonrinde

 Dr. Oyedeji (Deji) Ayonrinde is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario.  He is also the Medical Director of the Early Psychosis Intervention Programme in South East Ontario.  

 Dr. Ayonrinde had his postgraduate psychiatry training at the Bethlem and Maudsley Hospitals, London, UK with specialist accreditations in both General Adult and Addiction Psychiatry.  He worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and was an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IOPPN), Kings College, University of London till 2017.

Dr. Ayonrinde has been involved in undergraduate, postgraduate and national medical education for over 20 years and was previously Vice Chair of a General Medical Council education panel. For several years, he has lectured on MSc programmes at University of London, the Institute of Psychiatry and the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. He has also been engaged in knowledge translation initiatives in Malta, Australia, Nigeria and China.

 Dr. Ayonrinde has an MBA from Imperial College Business School, London where he received the Business School Award for research into Organisational Behaviour. A digital innovation by his MBA team was also showcased during the London Olympic Games. 

 In Canada, Dr. Ayonrinde has been involved in cannabis knowledge translation initiatives with educational institutions, armed forces, police, justice, and frontline health professionals.  He recently supervised three ‘Cannabis Awareness’ digital marketing innovation teams in conjunction with the Smith’s Business School targeting youth populations. One of these innovations received a Marketing Excellence Award. His clinical team recently received the ‘Kingston Health Sciences Centre Award for Knowledge’ for innovative knowledge translation activities regarding cannabis and psychosis. 

Dr. Ayonrinde has contributed to public cannabis awareness through print and electronic media.  He is currently supporting a number of Health Canada initiatives regarding cannabis literacy.

 Research interests include, youth mental health, cannabis and psychosis, metabolic syndrome, knowledge translation, multinational teams, cultural mental health and the history of psychiatry.

He is an advisor to the Bethlem Gallery and the Museum of the Mind as well as a Visiting Fellow to the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Dr Ayonrinde is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, International Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Fellow Royal Society of Art, Fellow Royal Society of Medicine and a Member of the Society of Apothecaries. He was awarded the Freedom of the City of London in 2013.
