Abstract

Part of the transitioning process for many transgender individuals is gender conforming surgery.
In order to obtain this they need to have 2 psychiatric assessments confirming that they have gender dysphoria.

Due to more accepting attitudes in society and more readily available information about transgenderism more and more individuals are
requesting gender conforming surgery.
This has resulted in a high demand for psychiatric assessments.
The long waiting time for appointments is very distressing to trans people.

Dr Warneke was instrumental in getting me started in this field and I have found it very fulfilling work.
Il'd like to provide an introductory workshop to help other psychiatrists get involved in the care of these individuals.
