Dr. Pratap Chokka, MDD

Dr. Pratap Chokka is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Alberta. After graduating medical school, Dr. Chokka obtained his Royal College certification in 1995 and has been practicing as an in-patient psychiatrist at the Grey Nuns Hospital as well as in private clinical practice.

Over the years, Dr. Chokka has lectured nationally and internationally and is specialized in the assessment and management of mood disorders, ADHD, and reproductive mental health disorders. He has conducted research over the last twenty-five years and has presented  findings both nationally and internationally. He has published extensively and in peer reviewed journals.

In the past, Dr. Chokka has served as a committee member for the Canadian Anxiety Guidelines, sat on the Royal College Examination Board for seven years and has been the preceptor and supervisor for medical students, residents, and post-graduate students.

Over the last several years, Dr. Chokka has gained a national and international reputation as a specialist in occupational psychiatry and has been leading the Workplace Mental Health Network consortium, a group of national and international leaders, who are setting recommendations to help clinicians to assess and manage workplace related mental health disorders. He has extensive experience in conducting several independent psychiatric evaluations, sat on Workers Compensation Boards, and has provided expert testimony in court.

Dr. Chokka is a member of the Royal College Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Canadian Psychiatric Association, the Canadian Medical Association, Alberta Medical Association, and Alberta Psychiatric Association. He is licensed to practice in Alberta and British Columbia.
