My name is Gilmar Gutierrez. I am a psychiatry resident at University of Alberta in year 2. I graduated medicine from Queen's University, and I’m an UBC alumnus in the Biochemistry program, bachelor of Science. I was born and grew up in Ecuador and traveled to Canada when I was 18 years old to continue my professional development. I have always had a keen interest in mental health and social advocacy. As such, I have focused my research endeavours to the understanding of novel psychopharmacotherapies using ketamine and esketamine, the study and delivery of online psychotherapy, and the development of novel teaching techniques for medical students. I have worked under the supervision of several Queen’s University and University of Alberta clinicians conducting randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, ethics applications and grant proposals for over 5 years.
