Emily earned an honours bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 2011 from the University of British Columbia, working as a teacher in Vancouver for five years prior to attending medical school. She graduated from the Cumming School of Medicine in 2020 where she is currently a 3rd year resident in psychiatry. Her interest in addiction medicine originated in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside where she volunteered in different areas of advocacy and harm reduction prior to her medical training. She has been working with Dr. David Crockford and Dr. Anees Bahji to better characterize the clinical evidence for and against involuntary treatment for substance use disorders given recent changes in political discourse.
