Dr. Yakov Shapiro, MD

Dr. Yakov Shapiro is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and psychotherapy supervisor at the University of Alberta, and runs Integrated Psychotherapy/Psychopharmacology Service (IPPS) in Edmonton, Canada. He obtained his MD with Honors in Research from the U of A, and a certificate of training in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the Menninger Foundation in Topeka, KS. He is a scholar with the U of A Integrative Health Institute and teaches courses on Evolutionary Psychiatry, Neuroscience of Psychotherapy, Integrated Treatment, and Psychodynamic Psychopharmacology at the U of A. He has presented courses and workshops on nonlinear dynamics applications and psychotherapy/psychopharmacology integration for Alberta, Canadian, and American Psychiatric Associations; American Academy of Psychoanalysis; International Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration; International Association for Relational Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis; and American and European Complex Systems Societies. He lives in Edmonton with his wife and 3 sons.
