Dr. David Lovas, MD, FRCPC

Speaker Bio: 

David Lovas, MD, FRCPC, completed his BSc in psychology and MD at Dalhousie University. He then completed residency in adult psychiatry through Harvard Medical school, followed by two fellowships, in adolescent psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine, also through Harvard Medical School. There, he received the Mysell Award for Psychiatric Resident Research, as well as the competitive Livingston and DuPont Warren research fellowships. After leaving Boston he returned to his home town of Halifax to work at the IWK Children’s Hospital, where he serves as the physician lead of the Emergency Mental Health and Addictions Service. He is also the program director of Dalhousie’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency. He has won the Department’s Teacher of the Year Award, nominated by the residents, and Educator of the Year Award, nominated by his peers, in recognition of his teaching that primarily focuses on clinical neurosciences. His research interests include developmental psychopathology and the clinical applications of mindfulness.
