Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 2019 Alberta Psychiatric Association Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting! It’s been a year since we last convened and I hope you are as excited as I am to be back here, in this gorgeous hotel, in these stunning Rocky Mountains.
Let me give you a quick look into what we have in store for you over the next few days. I may be biased but our Scientific Committee has put together an exceptionally interesting and exciting itinerary. Led by our fabulous crew, Drs Gordon Kelly, Arlie Fawcett, Katherine Aitchison, Tim Ayas, Tyler Pirlot, Sarah MacArthur, and Waldron Afflick have worked incredibly hard to make this conference even better than last year’s and they deserve a huge THANK YOU from all of us!
Opening up the conference in style, we have Dr. Sidney Kennedy on Thursday evening followed by 3 days of talks and workshops by dynamic local, national, and international speakers. In addition to a rich educational program, take some time to check out these events:
Similar to previous years, our Annual Conference is supported by the Alberta Medical Association’s Physician and Family Support Program (PFSP), the Canadian Psychiatric Association Continuing Professional Development Program (CPA CPD), as well as the Alberta Psychiatric Association Foundation. In addition to this, I want to acknowledge the ongoing support from the pharmaceutical industry, an industry that works with us to sponsor quality speakers and objective, evidence based educational programs. Thank you to all of our supporters!!
Before I close, I’d like to thank each of your for attending our conference and bringing your expertise and enthusiasm to our gathering. Together, we have the vision, the knowledge, the passion, and the experience to help enhance the lives of those living with mental illness in so many countless ways, not only within our province but also on a national and international level. You are truly our greatest asset today and tomorrow, this conference would not thrive or exist without your support and leadership. Throughout this conference, I ask you to stay engaged, keep us proactive and help us shape the future of Psychiatry in Alberta. My personal respect and gratitude goes out to all of you.
